Fly Tying the
Simple Hopper
Great pattern I created several years ago.
I use two different sizes size 10 for panfish and a size 6 for bass.
Materials
Hook Size 10 or 6
Thread UTC 70 Tan
Body 2mm Tan foam
Dubbing Amber superfine
Wing Deer hair
Legs Orange speckled
1. Secure hook in vise
2. Run thread back to the end.
3. Apply a super small drop of super glue at end. Will help a lot with next step.
4. Tie on foam on top of super glue drop.
5. Secure the foam down all the way to the eye.
6. Starting at the back make a dubbing noodle and dub the whole body.
7. Move thread back a few mm and tie in a small bunch of deer hair for a wing. Trim butts and dab a small spot of glue. The rest of the fly will be tied from the spot.
8. Fold over the rest of the foam to form a head and tie down.
9. Trim the foam to form a small over wing.
10. Tie on one leg.
11. Tie on the other leg.
12. Whip finish and enjoy.
Thanks
Chris
