Red Peacock

Another easy pattern and an effective one.

Materials

Hook Curved size 10-14

1/8 Brass bead

Thread UTC 70 Black

green and black small flash for tail

Small copper rib

Peacock herl for body

Red hackle

UV Peacock ice dubbing for collar

 1. Place bead on hook and secure in vise.

 2. Start thread and go 1/3 down.

 3. Tie in the wire rib.

 4. Wrap thread to the back.

 5. Tie in flash tail.

 6. Trim tail short.

 7. Tie in the peacock herl.

 8. Wrap up to the bead.

 9. Wrap the rib up.

 10 Tie in the hackle by the tip.

 11. Wrap 3-4 times.

 12. Add a small dubbing collar.

13 Whip finish and trim thread.

Black Mini Leech

This pattern has been amazing this year. Caught tons of pan fish Bluegills, Crappie and even Yellow Perch. Very simple to tie and no reason not to carry 2 or 3.

Material

Hook size 8-12

Thread UTC 70 black

.020 lead wire

Dubbing Black Rabbit or squirrel

Green and Black small flashabou

 1. Spiral wrap lead wire 8 or so turns.

 2. Start thread and wrap to the back.

 3. Using a dubbing needle split the thread.

 4. Fill the split with about an 1 1\2" of dubbing.

 5. Wrap forward to the eye

6. Use some Velcro and tease out the fibers,. 

 7. Tie in the flashabou on top and sides of the head.

 8. trim a little longer than the body.

 9. Make a small dubbing head to hold the flash down a bit.

10. Whip finish and go fish.

Very easy to tie pattern and very effective.

Materials

Size 14 hook

UTC 70 Black thread

2mm red foam

2 Black osterich herl

1. Secure hook in vise. 

 2. Wrap thread to the back.

 3. Attach red foam.

 4. Attach herls.

 5. Wrap up to eye.

 6. Trim

 7. Fold over foam and tie down.

 8. Trim to form small head.

 9. Whip finish and add black dots.

10 Enjoy

Squirrel Tail Jig

Quick, Easy and Effective.

That's how I describe this little jig. Pan fish love this little jig. Tied in a bigger size will work great for ice fishing.

Materials

Size 10 1/80oz jig

UTC 70 Tan

Squirrel Tail

Squirrel belly colored rabbit dubbing

Grizzly Saddle hackle

 1. Secure jig in vise.

 2. Work thread to the back.

 3. Measure length of tail.

 4. Attach tail and tie in whole length.

 5. Trim excess tail material at head.

 6. Move thread back down to the end.

 7. Tie in a hackle.

 8. Dub a tapered body.

 9 Wrap hackle up to front.

 10. Whip finish.

11. Trim hackle and thread and Enjoy.

Simple Hopper

Simple Hopper

This is another good summertime pattern. A very easy to tie hopper imitation.

Small size 10 for panfish or a size 6 for bass.

Materials

Hook size10 or 6

Thread UTC 70 Tan

2mm Tan foam

Amber superfine dubbing

Deer hair wing

Orange speckled legs

1. Secure hook in vise. 

 2. Wrap thread to the end.

 3. Place a thin layer of glue on the thread.

 4. Trim the foam to a point for tail and tie in.

5. Tie down really good. 

 6 Dub the whole shank and move thread 1/3 of the way down.

 7. Cut and stack a small clump of hair and tie in for the wing.

 8. Fold foam over to form a head and short over wing.

 9. Trim foam.

 10. Tie on the legs.

 11. Trim to desired length.

12. Whip finish and enjoy.
